About the Ellard Athena Black Handset (1st Generation)
This is the handset for Ellard’s first generation Athena control panel, which operates tubular motor roller shutter and garage doors, and it uses a rolling code. The same remote is also sold as a replacement for some Paramount and NVM roller shutter systems, since they share the same receiver design. It has been superseded by Ellard’s white second generation Athena and Genesis handsets, which do not work with it.

Look on the label or the back of the remote for:

What it looks like: A fob with a black plastic case, silver-coloured buttons and trim, a hinged cover, and a keyring hole.
Don’t mix it up: It is visually very similar to remote fobs sold for Paramount PM1 and NVM roller shutter systems, since they are the same design under different branding, so check for an Ellard, Paramount or NVM name on the label to identify the system it belongs to.

How it’s set up
This is a rolling-code remote: its signal changes every time you press it, so a universal copying remote won’t work. It has to be paired with your system, either at the motor or receiver, usually with a learn or program button, or from a remote that already works. It normally takes a couple of minutes. Seen it cheaper somewhere else?
Check it’s the genuine Ellard remote. Many cheaper listings are copies or “compatible” remotes, not the manufacturer’s own. A genuine Ellard remote has the Ellard name on it, usually on the front or on the label on the back, along with the model name. Copies often leave the name off, and some won’t pair with a rolling-code system at all. A universal remote that works by copying can’t copy a rolling code.
