GfA garage door remote replacement: identify yours

GfA Elektromaten is a German maker of drives and controls for industrial and garage doors, widely fitted to roller shutter and sectional doors across Europe, including the UK. Its handsets have changed range and housing more than once, and most only pair with their own GfA control panel.

Which GfA remote do you have?

The ones you're most likely to find:

  • VR/TF2E and VR/TF4E are GfA's current UK handsets, a white and blue fob with two or four buttons, using 433.92 MHz rolling code and pairing with a GfA TS 971 control panel, which has a receiver built in, or a TS 970 panel fitted with a separate GfA receiver.
  • SKX handsenders are an older range sold in several housings, with one, two or four channels, running a fixed code set by an internal switch rather than rolling code.
  • Vehicle mounted transmitters, such as the VR/60743 and VR/61143, use the same current GfA radio system built into a sun visor style clip-on unit rather than a keyring fob.

The control panel fitted inside the garage, and whether it has a built in receiver, is usually the fastest way to work out which handset generation is needed.

GfA's current handsets use rolling code, so a universal copying remote will not work with them.

No clear label? What to photograph

These usually settle it:

  • Your handset, front and back, so we can see its colour, buttons and any printed model text.
  • The control panel inside the garage, with its cover on, plus any label showing a TS model number.
  • The battery compartment of the handset, which often shows the exact model code.

What to photograph shows what a useful photo looks like.
