How to copy or set the code on a Hörmann HS 4 or HSM 4 at 26.975 MHz

For: A Hörmann receiver or operator on 26.975 MHz that uses a 10-position coding switch, or already works with your old DH handset

Before you start

• The frequency (26.975 MHz) is printed on the handset. Hörmann also made 26.995, 27.015 and 27.455 MHz versions of the same handset with the same steps, so check yours matches your receiver.

Copy the code from an old handset

1. Hold the old handset and the new one directly side by side.
2. Press and hold the button you want to copy on the old handset.
3. Straight away, press and hold the matching button on the new handset. Its LED flashes slowly for 4 seconds and then faster when the code has been copied.
4. Release both buttons and test it. If it doesn’t work, repeat.

• If you let go of the new handset’s button during the first 4 seconds, the copy is cancelled.
• Hörmann warns the door can move if a taught receiver is in range while you copy.

Set the code by hand (10 presses)

1. Open the battery cover and press the small reset key. The LED lights.
2. At once, press the handset buttons in the pattern of your code, ten presses in all. In Hörmann’s manual the top button counts as 1 and the bottom button as 0, matching a receiver’s ten switches (up is 1, down is 0). Hörmann’s example is 1111100000: five presses of the top button and then five of the bottom button.
3. The tenth press ends the entry, and the LED flashes quickly for a few seconds. Close the cover and test it. If it fails, repeat.

• To read a code back, open the cover and press the reset key without pressing any button. The LED lights for 6 seconds and goes dark, then flashes the code: one long flash is 0 (switch off), a double flash is 1 (switch on).

• To teach one of these handsets to an HE, HEI or HER receiver at this frequency, use the receiver guide. The steps are the same.

Not covered on this page

Some operators have no coding switches (for example the GTS 40, GTD 60 and SupraMatic S/K). Hörmann gives a different method for those, for one specific case, so we haven’t included it. The older operators these handsets were sold with aren’t covered either.
