How to copy the code from your old Hörmann HSM 4 onto a new one

For: Any Hörmann receiver or operator that already works with your old HSM 4 on the same frequency (nothing needs changing at the receiver)

Before you start

• Your old and new handsets must be the same frequency.
• Call the old handset the sender and the new one the learner.
• Keep GSM 900 mobile phones away from the handsets while you copy.

Copy a button

1. Hold the two handsets side by side, 0 to 5 cm apart. (For the 40 MHz version, Hörmann’s manual shows them end to end, facing each other.)
2. Press and hold the button you want to copy on the old handset. Its LED lights steadily.
3. Straight away, press and hold the button that should learn the code on the new handset. Its LED flashes slowly for about 4 seconds, and then quickly once it has learned the code.
4. Release both buttons. Test it, and repeat if it doesn’t work.

• If you let go of the new handset’s button during the slow flashing, the copy is cancelled.
• Hörmann warns that pressing the old handset may move the door if a taught receiver is in range, so keep the door clear.

If a copy went wrong: re-code the button

Only needed after a wrong copy or a wrong teach-in. Hörmann says to use a blunt tool and press gently, because pushing hard can break the small button.

1. Open the battery cover. There is a small button on the circuit board.
2. Hold that small button and, at the same time, hold the handset button you want to re-code. The handset’s LED flashes slowly for at most 4 seconds.
3. To give the button its original factory code, keep holding the small button until the slow flashing ends. The LED then flashes rapidly.
4. To give it a different, new code, let go of the small button before the slow flashing ends. The LED goes straight to rapid flashing.
5. Close the cover and teach the button to your receiver again.
