How to add a Gliderol handset to a Glidermatic GRD or GTS opener

For: Gliderol Glidermatic GRD or GTS opener (the board has a red learn button and a red light)

Before you start

• The board is inside the motor housing: the light cover hinges down and the cover unclips.
• The opener holds 10 handsets. Add an eleventh and the oldest is silently dropped, which is why an old handset sometimes stops working after a new one is added.

Add the handset

1. Take the cover off so you can see the board, with its red learn button and red light.
2. Press the red learn button once. The red light comes on.
3. Press the button you want to use on the handset, and wait for the red light to go out. The handset is taught.

• Gliderol’s retail page words the last step as press and hold the larger button, while the manual says press it once. If one doesn’t take, try the other.
• Which button does what is set by small jumpers inside the box, for single-button or three-button use. That is in your opener’s own manual.

Good to know

• If the door ignores a newly taught handset, check vacation mode. It locks out every remote signal, and you turn it on and off by holding STOP and CLOSE together for three seconds. This catches people out constantly.
• Changing the battery does not lose the programming: the handset keeps its code.
• Batteries: the G+ takes two CR2016 cells, the TM-868C a 12 volt A23, and the old 27 MHz handset a 12 volt 23A. Gliderol quotes 18 to 24 months of life.
• Gliderol’s rolling-code G+ handsets can’t be copied from one another, and they don’t work with motors 15 to 20 years old or more.

Deleting remotes

• To wipe every handset, hold the red learn button until its light goes out. Gliderol’s own documents give the time as anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds, so hold it until the light goes out rather than counting. Every handset then has to be taught again.

Some Gliderol documents are Australian and quote a different frequency from the UK handsets, so if yours doesn’t match, follow your own manual.
