How to add a Neco remote to your Neco receiver box

For: A Neco receiver box: MK1, Euro, Garage Remote, Rollermatic, Eco or Eco Mini

Before you start

• Find the receiver box first. Britalia says it is normally on an inside wall or above a false ceiling, not at the door.
• Read the warning below before you press anything. The same button both teaches and erases, and the only difference is how long you hold it.
• If you have an Eco or Eco Mini box, see the first point under Good to know: those boxes take only their own handsets.

Add the handset

1. Take the cover off the receiver box.
2. Press the learning button, which sits next to the fuse holder, and let go straight away. Britalia words this as either a press and release or a press of about one second. Either way it is a short press.
3. Straight away, press a button on the handset until the door runs. Britalia’s handset sheet says the top left button; the sheets supplied with the boxes say to press the up and down buttons again and again until the door moves.
4. The door running is your confirmation. Repeat for each handset you want to add.

• Britalia publishes two slightly different wordings of this same job, one on the handset sheet and one on each box sheet. Both are above, because which one applies to your particular box isn’t stated anywhere.
• Neither wording says how long you have after pressing the learning button, only ‘immediately’, so have the handset ready in your other hand.

Good to know

• An Eco or Eco Mini box takes only the handsets it came with. Britalia’s own words are that any other handset cannot be programmed to it, so a TR4 or TX4 will not pair with an Eco box however carefully you follow the steps.
• How many each box holds: the MK1 takes 100 handsets, the Eco and Eco Mini 20, and the Garage Remote 50 or 100 depending which Britalia document you read.
• The battery in the TR4, TX4 and Control 4 is a 12 volt alkaline. Britalia doesn’t print a cell code, so take the old one with you when you buy a replacement.
• Telling them apart in the hand: the TR4 is grey with a chrome face plate, the TX4 is the same shape in black, and the Control 4 is also black but noticeably thicker, 15 mm against 8 mm.
• There is no way to copy one Neco handset onto another. None of Britalia’s documents describes it, so don’t buy a second one expecting to clone it.

Deleting remotes

• There is no way to remove one handset on its own. Holding the learning button for about ten seconds wipes every handset stored in the box, and they all have to be added again. If you have lost a handset, that is the only way to stop it working.

The Control 4 handset and its wall box: Britalia no longer sells that box and publishes no programming sheet for it, so we can’t give steps. We also can’t tell you what the learning light means, because none of the sheets describes it. If the sheet that came with your box says something different, follow your own sheet.
